Do I need to know SQL?

No. You write your question in your own language and PerSight generates the query for you. For those who do know SQL, the generated query is always visible and editable.

What if it generates the wrong query?

The generated query is shown on screen before it runs and what it does is explained in plain language; edit it if you like. Since the system is read-only, no query can change or delete your data.

Which databases are supported?

Currently PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle are supported, and the list is growing.

How does this relate to data protection?

By design, PerSight never sends real row data to the cloud, which lightens your personal-data processing obligations. With the transparency modal you can always see what goes to the cloud.

My table and column names can be sensitive too — is sending the schema safe?

Only table and column names (the schema) and your question go to the cloud; never row data. You can see exactly what's sent in the app's transparency modal, and annotate ambiguous columns yourself if you wish.

Does it work with my own ERP/accounting database (SAP, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.)?

PerSight works with any application whose data lives in a supported database — just connect to the database behind your ERP/accounting software with a read-only user.

Which AI is used, and does my data go to it?

SQL generation runs through our server using a capable AI model; only your question and schema are sent to the model, not your row data. The resulting query runs on your own machine.

Can I pull data myself without waiting on IT?

Yes — that is exactly what PerSight is for. You connect to a supported database with a read-only user, ask in your own words, and the generated query is always on screen and runs on your machine. No ticket, no queue: the result arrives as a table and chart, and you can pin frequent questions to a dashboard.

Can I export results to Excel?

Yes. Any query result can be downloaded as an .xlsx file with one click; the export runs entirely on your machine, so row data still never goes to the cloud. You can also browse a table without asking a question, filter it, and export it the same way.

Can I use PerSight to build reports?

What kinds of questions can I ask?

The maths happens inside the generated query, so you don't have to recompute the result in Excel. If your schema has no answer, no query is invented; PerSight says it couldn't answer.

It doesn't just pull lists. It calculates.

You don't have to move the result into Excel to work out a share or a change from the previous period; the maths happens inside the generated query. And when you do want Excel, one click exports the result as .xlsx. The questions below aren't presets, you ask in your own words.

Ranking and thresholds

Top 10 customers by orders last month
Customers with an open balance over 50,000

When the ranking metric lives in a detail table it is totalled per customer first, and the threshold is applied to that total.

Trends and period comparison

Monthly revenue for the last 12 months and the change from the previous month
Order count this quarter versus last quarter

"Last month" means the previous calendar month, not the last 30 days. The first month's change stays empty; a zero is never invented.

Shares and ratios

Revenue by category this year and each category's share of the total
Average order value per customer, broken down by city

Percentages and ratios are computed against the total in the same query. If a denominator comes out as zero, that row stays empty instead of failing the query.

Side by side comparison

Monthly order count for retail, corporate and reseller segments
Completed and cancelled orders, month by month

The categories you name in the question become columns of their own, in the shape you can paste straight into a report.

An "each X" question doesn't dump the whole list; rows are ranked inside every group and only the winner stays.

Exceptions and gaps

Customers who haven't ordered at all this year
Overdue invoices, sorted by days late

"None at all" questions are built from the customer side, so those without a single matching record don't drop off the list.

Risk and receivables

Overdue balance per customer, split into 30-60-90 day buckets
Customers whose average delay exceeds 30 days

Aging buckets land in separate columns of the same query; "today" is taken from the day the query runs — there is no report date to update by hand.

If your schema has no answer for a question, no query is invented: PerSight says it couldn't answer. Every question runs on its own; you don't build on the previous one.
